Located to the north west of the Gaume, at the gates to the Ardennes, the district of Florenville is made up by the old districts of: Chassepierre, Florenville, Fontenoille, Lacuisine, Muno, Sainte-Cécile and Villers-devant-Orval.
Its northern part is crossed by the Semois valley.
Its economy is based on agriculture and forestry, but trade and tourism are beginning to overtake these two traditional sectors.
